Today, I want to take a moment to honor a team that truly embodied our core value to serve a community and their patients.


This team didn't just run a program; they built a powerful engine for opportunity and a sustainable solution to some of the greatest challenges in healthcare.


The Challenge They Met

As an industry, we have been facing a critical shortage of qualified staff, widespread burnout, and the high cost of education that creates a barrier for so many talented people. This team saw these challenges not as a roadblock, but as an opportunity to build something truly innovative.


A Brilliant, Life-Changing Solution

They developed an in-house "grow-your-own" Medical Assistant (MA) Training Program designed to lift people up while simultaneously filling critical vacancies within our clinics.


This model was brilliant in its compassion and effectiveness. It offered participants a curated, 18-week training program and, most importantly, removed the financial barriers that stop so many. The program covered the full cost of their education, provided a full-time salary while they learned, and even paid for their certification exams.


It was a program that invested in our own community, recruiting locally to create a healthcare staff that reflected the diverse patient population we serve.


The "Ripple Effect": A Legacy of Proven Value

When we talk about return on investment, this program is a masterclass in "ripple effect" ROI. The value it created goes far beyond a simple balance sheet.


  • For Their System: The program was a resounding success, graduating 180 MAs across five cohorts across the state. It provided a steady pipeline of qualified, dedicated MAs to support their physicians and care teams.

  • For Their Patients: The increased availability of these well-trained MAs, who were immersively trained within their system, improved the quality and comprehensiveness of patient care.

  • For Their Community: This is the most powerful legacy. The program boasted a remarkable 98% 1-year retention rate and an 87% two-year retention rate. It created stable, living-wage careers.

  • For the Future: It was a true engine for career advancement. A full 30% of the program's graduates continued their education to pursue Registered Nurse degrees, many of whom are still with their health system today.


Perhaps the most telling metric isn't a number, but a quote. As noted in their Award nomination, many graduates expressed that this program "absolutely changed their life".
